Public Notice

The School district of Osceola County does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, color, religion, age, national origin or disability in its provision of programs, services or employment. The district has designated Ms. Cynthia Franklin as the District's Section 504 Facilitator to coordinate the District's compliance with federal nondiscrimination laws. Ms. Franklin may be reached at 870-4897. Additionally, St. Cloud High School has designated Mr. Jeff Schwartz to coordinate the school's efforts to ensure compliance with federal nondiscrimination laws.

Student Policies

Standards of Conduct
The administration, faculty and staff assume that secondary students are mature and responsible for their own proper behavior and efforts at school. In order to maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning, certain standards are expected at St. Cloud High School. Every circumstance may not be identified specifically, but all rules and expectations as outlined in the County Code of Conduct will be strictly enforced.

Change of Address
It is the guardians’ responsibility to notify the school when a change of address or phone number has occurred. Change forms with proper documentation are available through the guidance office and should be completed as soon as possible

Student Attendance Philosophy: St. Cloud High School personnel strongly believe that regular attendance is necessary to maximize educational benefits.

Absences:In cases of excused absences, the student shall be allowed to make up the work within two class meetings for each absence and teachers shall give reasonable assistance. Make-up work/tests should be done outside the regular class period unless there are extenuating circumstances. It is the responsibility of the student to ask for this work. Field trips are not considered absences.

An absence may be excused provided a legal guardian calls the attendance office between the hours of 7:00 am and 3:00 pm on the day of the absence. After one week the coding of the absence cannot be changed due to District reporting. For example, an unexcused absence cannot be changed to an excused absence. There is a time limit for making up work (two class meetings) therefore, it is important for the absence to be excused immediately.

Written excuses are not accepted. If there is a legitimate reason why the policy cannot be followed, the guardian should contact SCHS immediately so that arrangements for verification can be made.

Attendance number is 407-891-3117. PARENTS, PLEASE RECORD CONFIRMATION NUMBERS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.

Permitted Absences:A parent wishing to arrange a permitted absence shall be required to send a note in with their student in advance of the requested absence(s). For valid requests, the student will be issued a form to take to his/her teachers to establish conditions for make-up work. The make-up is to be completed according to teacher arrangements, but not to exceed twice the number of days absent. It is the responsibility of the student to return the form to Attendance personnel PRIOR to the absence. Failure to do so VOIDS THE EXCUSED PERMITTED ABSENCE. A maximum of five (5) days can be requested.

Unexcused Absences: WORK MAY NOT BE MADE UP FOR CREDIT DUE TO UNEXCUSED ABSCENCES.

Truancy/Skipping Class: No make up allowed. Zero for all work missed. Students are responsible for validating any questionable absences for school or from each class.

Off-Campus Passes: Off-campus passes will be issued to the student through guardian request. It is strongly recommended that calls be made early in the day to assure no delays in student dismissal. Off-campus for driver test appointments, work, etc., is not excused. Documentation is required for doctor, dentist, court and funeral absences.Off-campus during lunch is allowed for medically verified appointments, for students with lunch pass, or for students signed out by and accompanied by a parent. A student who becomes ill during the school day must obtain parent permission to leave campus from the clinic, and then sign out through attendance in order to be excused.

Tardy to Class: Two allowed per nine weeks per class prior to administrative discipline (teachers handle first two). Tardies to class will be handled by the classroom teachers.

Hall Passes: Students are not allowed in the hall during class time without their agenda/signed hall pass or an office request. Failure to comply will result in discipline.

Clinic

Clinic A student who becomes ill during the school day must request a teacher pass to the clinic. The school nurse will call a guardian for dismissal approval, and then the student must sign out in the attendance office. Students may not leave campus because of an illness without authorization. Only phone numbers listed in TERMS CONTACT INFORMATION WILL BE CALLED.

St. Cloud High School does not provide any medicine (including Tylenol or Mylanta) to students. If a student requires medication while at school:

  • It must be brought to school by a parent or guardian and the proper authorization completed.
  • Keep medicine in original container with label affixed by the physician or pharmacy, which shows child's name, the dosage, and the schedule for administration.
  • Take note and medicine to the nurse before the school day starts.

No medication will be given to a child without a written request from his/her parents. Students aren't allowed to carry, use, or prescribe aspirin, cold tablets, or any other drug.

Every accident in the school building, on the school grounds, at practice sessions, or at any athletic event sponsored by the school must be reported immediately to the person in charge and to the school office.

NOTICE TO PARENTS: In the school setting, if any possible infectious, contagious, or transmittable condition is suspected by the health aide or R.N., the parent of the student will be contacted to come and remove the child from the school immediately. At this time, you will be advised that you should seek medical attention. The student may not come back into contact with other students until he/she is cleared by a medical doctor. A medical release is required in order to return to school.

Head lice are a common problem in all schools. Routine checks are made at elementary schools. Students in any grade found with head lice or nits in their hair are sent home with instructions for treatment. In the case of Head Lice, students must be treated. Parent must accompany the child to school to be cleared by the nurse. Students cannot return to the classroom until the school nurse has cleared them.

Lost and Found

Lost and found is located in the Administrative Complex. Students who find lost articles are asked to take them to the front office where they can be claimed by the owner.

Closed Campus

St. Cloud High School operates under a closed campus policy. Upon arriving on the bus/parking lot, students are to remain on campus until they are properly dismissed. Any students who walk off campus once they have entered school grounds will be considered skipping.

No students are to loiter in the parking lot once they drive onto campus. Any students found in the parking lot during the school day without an administrative pass will be considered skipping.

Any visitor coming onto school grounds must check in through the Administrative Complex. An administrator must give permission for a visitor's badge. Any person visiting students without checking in will be considered trespassing. Visitors who are picking up students must wait in the parent pick-up area unless checking in at the main office. We strictly enforce this rule in order to make St. Cloud High as safe as possible.

At no time will students be allowed to bring a guest with them to attend classes or be on the campus during the school day. Parents are encouraged and welcomed to attend classes with their child. They should contact a guidance counselor or administrator to set up a day that they can visit.

Outstanding Obligations

Any students with obligation(s) will not be allowed to participate in any co/extra curricular activities offered at St. Cloud High School. Furthermore, a student with any obligations will not be issued an off-campus lunch pass or a campus parking permit.

Bus Transportation

Students residing in bus zones are allowed to ride the bus to and from school. A student is not permitted to come to school by bus and leave the campus area. Students must ride the bus that they are assigned from the transportations department. If there is an emergency and they need to change bus routes a parent must call the transportation department to receive permission. The number for transportation is 407-518-4540. SCHS does not have the authority to allow students to change buses except IF an address has been submitted to the front office. Also, if a student wants a courtesy ride, this must be approved by transportation. Do not bring notes and other requests to St. Cloud High School Administration.

Care of School Property

We hope you share our pride in St. Cloud High School and will at all times help keep all parts of the building, equipment, books, and grounds at their best appearance. Students are responsible for the proper care of all books, supplies, and furniture supplied by the school. Students who disfigure property or equipment will be required to pay for the damage or to replace the item. Willful acts of damage or destruction to property is totally unacceptable and beneath the maturity and responsibility of high school students. Strong disciplinary action will be taken in addition to restitution.
